Due to a scheduling hiccup in the Social Security Administration’s schedule, the payment that is sent out on September 1 will be the first of two payments that will be sent to beneficiaries the following month. On September 29, the second $914 direct payment will be distributed; it will take the place of October’s payment.

Beneficiaries typically only get one check each month, but this year there are four months when they will get two: March, June, September, and December they will receive a $914 direct payment. This is due to the fact that January 1 is usually a holiday and that the first of the month falls on a weekend in April, July, and October. In January 2024, April, July, or October, they won’t receive any payouts.

Depending on how recipients apply for assistance, different payment amounts apply. The monthly payment amount for individuals is $914 direct payment. The monthly fee for couples who qualify is $1,371. A monthly payment rate of $458 is given to essential personnel who house and care for someone receiving SSI.

Supplemental Security program recipients will receive a $914 direct payment

An applicant for the Supplemental Security program must be above 65 and satisfy certain income criteria. Those under 65 may also be eligible if they have a medical or mental condition that seriously restricts their daily activities for at least a year or is anticipated to cause death, or if they are at least half blind.

Children who are at least partially blind or have a physical or mental ailment that restricts their daily activities for at least a year and whose parents or legal guardians have little income or resources may also be eligible for the $914 direct payment.

The Social Security Administration started issuing the $914 direct payment in January 1974, and since 1975, the agency claims, payment rates have grown for cost of living adjustments.
