New Jersey authorities apprehended Maria Macburnie, a 62-year-old woman, on Wednesday, after allegations emerged that she had been masquerading as a licensed medical practitioner and issuing prescriptions to unsuspecting individuals on Shore Medical Associates. As WBAL TV reported, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office brought forth an array of charges against her, encompassing practicing medicine without a license, forgery, health care claims fraud, and three counts of distributing controlled dangerous substances.
Macburnie purportedly provided medical services at Shore Medical Associates in Toms River, New Jersey, from March 2022 to June 2023. During this period, the fake doctor of Shore Medical Associates reportedly assumed the identity of a family member possessing an active medical license, using their name to authorize prescriptions. Shockingly, these prescriptions also involved controlled dangerous substances, raising serious concerns about the potential harm inflicted on patients who unknowingly received such medications.
