The tragic incident occurred back on March 2, 2020, and it led to her pleading guilty to murder in the first degree and child abuse. The court dismissed one count of child abuse in a plea deal, but the judge made it clear that denied parole was on the table as he termed her actions as “heinous, cruel, and depraved behavior,” handing down a life sentence with the chance of denied parole. During the sentencing, Elizabeth expressed some remorse, but it just didn’t seem to be enough to sway the judge. Her emotional statement revealed how she blamed herself for the loss of her beautiful child, but the court couldn’t ignore the gruesome details surrounding Deshaun’s death, which caused the denied parole. An autopsy showed he weighed a shocking 18 pounds, a tiny skeleton with almost no fat left on his body. The poor boy had to endure such suffering, and his sunken face was a haunting reflection of the torment he faced

The denied parole came after the court learned about the horrifying “punishment” regime imposed at the Martinez home. Deshaun and his older brother were locked up in a closet for hours on end, given hardly any food as a way to punish them for sneaking out at night to eat. This abuse had been going on for about a month, and it was too much for anyone to bear. The surviving sisters, aged 2 and 4, were lucky to be found healthy and placed in foster care. As the gavel fell, Elizabeth Archibeque-Martinez was sentenced to life behind bars and a denied parole, ensuring justice was served for little Deshaun’s tragic fate.
