Tina Fey Reveals She and ‘Work Wife’ Amy Poehler Continue to Watch ‘SNL’ Together

Tina Fey says she and work 'wife' Amy Poehler still watch 'SNL' together

One of the preferred pastimes of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler involves the shared activity of watching ‘Saturday Night Live.’

The dynamic duo, renowned for their collaboration on the ‘Weekend Update’ segment during their tenure on the NBC sketch comedy show, is currently on the ‘Restless Leg’ tour together.

Tina Fey, 53, shared on the recent episode of the ‘Sunday Sitdown with Willie Geist’ podcast that when it’s a Saturday, and they’re on the road, they make it a point to watch ‘SNL’ from the hotel room, describing it as a dream. Even when physically apart, Fey mentioned that they engage in live texting during the show.

The watch parties hosted by Fey and Poehler were compared by Fey to the enthusiasm of dedicated sports fans, expressing their support for every cast member.

She humorously mentioned her inner head writer critique, suggesting ways the sketches could have been clearer. Alongside their ‘Restless Leg’ tour, Fey has been actively involved in promoting the ‘Mean Girls’ musical movie. The film features Reneé Rapp as Regina George and Australian actress Angourie Rice in the role of Cady Heron.

Adapted from the 2004 high-school comedy and 2018 Broadway show, both written by Fey, the new film retains its original elements. In the creation of the modernized ‘Mean Girls,’ directed by Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr., the musical’s songs undergo TikTok-friendly arrangements.

The storyline incorporates smartphones and social media posts for a contemporary touch. Despite these updates, the film avoids relying on Gen Z lingo, and iconic elements from the original movie, such as Kälteen Bars and the Burn Book, remain unchanged.

I do sometimes run things by my kids,” was mentioned by Fey in a previous interview with USA TODAY. Her daughters Alice and Penelope, aged 18 and 12, respectively, were part of the discussion.

She elaborated, saying, “Early on, there was a conversation about whether the Burn Book should still be a physical book or become a private Instagram. I knew what my instinct was, but I ran it by my kids. My older daughter was like, ‘Yeah, no. Don’t let those millennials overthink it!’

A chemistry that developed over time was observed by Fey, who realized their unique rhythm while hosting the Golden Globe Awards. The hosting duties were carried out for three years, from 2013 to 2015, and again in 2021.

Now, the two are on the road together for their “Restless Leg” comedy tour. Geist commented that hearing about their new endeavor makes it sound like they’re rock stars.
