Residents of Pinecrest frequently report incidents of property crime, with violent crimes like shootings being prevalent as well. The neighborhood is notorious for its active gang presence, which contributes significantly to the high crime rate.

2. Lincoln Heights

Lincoln Heights, located in Charlotte, is known for having one of the highest rates of violent crime in the area. Despite having a population of just 2,376 people, the total crime rate in this neighborhood is a staggering 449% higher than the average for Charlotte. Gang activity is prevalent, and shootings occur frequently. Unfortunately, residents often feel that law enforcement is unable to properly patrol the area, leading to a sense of insecurity. Property theft, car theft, and burglary are also major concerns for those living in Lincoln Heights.

3. Lakewood

With a population of 887, Lakewood is recognized as one of the most perilous neighborhoods in Charlotte. Its crime rate is 435% higher than the Charlotte average, making it an unsafe place to reside. Although gentrification has occurred in some parts of the neighborhood, most of it still experiences high rates of violent and property crimes. While some areas of the neighborhood are safe, many other parts become dangerous at night, leaving residents vulnerable to crimes.

4. Tryon Hills

Located in Charlotte, Tryon Hills is notorious for being one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the city. Home to about 1,600 residents, it has a crime rate that is a staggering 391% higher than the national average. The majority of the neighborhood’s population falls below the poverty line, making it a low-income area. Unfortunately, Tryon Hills has a high incidence of violent crimes, with homicides, robberies, and different types of property theft being prevalent.

5. Grier Heights

Grier Heights is known as one of Charlotte’s most dangerous neighborhoods due to its high crime rate that is 365% above the national average. Home to around 2,958 people, the area has been plagued by property crimes like burglaries and thefts. While violent crime still occurs, Grier Heights has recently undergone gentrification, which has helped to drive away some of the criminal elements from the area.

6. Seversville

With a population of just 603, Seversville is a Charlotte neighborhood that is notorious for its high crime rate, which is 323% above the national average. Although some parts of the neighborhood have undergone renovations, many areas still grapple with high rates of violent and property crimes. Numerous residents have reported feeling unsafe in Seversville, especially at night. Nevertheless, with the ongoing gentrification of the area, crime rates have gradually been on the decline.

7. Smallwood

Smallwood, a neighborhood situated near downtown Charlotte, is home to around 1,183 residents. Unfortunately, Smallwood has a high violent crime rate of 3,168 per 100,000 individuals, which is 305% above the city’s average crime rate. The most prevalent crimes in this area include property theft, robbery, car theft, and assault. Moreover, most of the schools in Smallwood are inadequately rated and lack proper funding. Despite these drawbacks, some individuals prefer living in Smallwood due to its affordable rent prices and convenient location near downtown.

8. Plaza-Shamrock 

Plaza-Shamrock, situated in northeastern Charlotte, is infamous for its high crime rates, making it one of the most perilous neighborhoods in the city. Despite recent gentrification efforts, the area’s crime rate remains 297% higher than Charlotte’s average, with a population of 3,078. Although new and refurbished homes are being constructed in the region, Plaza-Shamrock has historically been reputed as one of the city’s most hazardous parts. Violent and property crimes are more frequent near E. Sugar Creek and the Giant Penny.

9. Washington Heights 

Located just north of downtown Charlotte, Washington Heights is home to a population of 2,018. However, the neighborhood has a high violent crime rate of 3,082 per 100,000, which is 294% above the national average. Despite recent renovation efforts, property crime and theft remain a concern in Washington Heights. Certain concentrated areas within the neighborhood are known for incidents of violent crime.

10. Enderly Park

Enderly Park, located in the northwestern part of Charlotte, has gained a notorious reputation due to its high crime rate. The neighborhood, with a population of 3,249, has a violent crime rate that is 292% higher than the national average. Despite the ongoing gentrification in Charlotte, Enderly Park has yet to experience any significant changes. Many areas within the neighborhood are run-down and lack essential services. Unfortunately, certain parts of Enderly Park are known for crimes such as murder, theft, and robbery, making it one of the least desirable places to reside in Charlotte.
