Pentagon’s AARO Launches User-Friendly Portal for Reporting Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena Sightings

The Pentagon’s investigative entity dedicated to unidentified flying objects (UFOs), formally known as the All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), has recently introduced a digital platform with the objective of fostering greater public engagement. According to Space, this initiative was unveiled on August 30 and is designed to provide a user-friendly interface for U.S. government and military personnel, as well as the broader public, to document sightings of what are now referred to as “unidentified anomalous phenomena” (UAP), formerly UFOs.

Notably, the web portal remains under development but includes a designated section enabling current or former government employees, military service members, and contractors involved in U.S. government UAP-related programs to submit detailed accounts of their experiences. This initiative is aligned with the Congressional mandate to establish a comprehensive historical record of such events dating back to 1945.

Detecting and Understanding Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena

AARO’s overarching mission, as articulated on the website, revolves around the orchestration of scientific, intelligence, and operational efforts to detect, identify, attribute, and, where necessary, address Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena occurring within the purview of national security interests. The website provides a three-fold characterization of UAPs, encompassing inexplicable aerial objects, objects exhibiting inter-domain traversal (e.g., from air to space to water), and submerged entities that elude immediate identification. The adoption of the term “Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena” in place of “UFO” reflects a more inclusive investigative scope.

Established in July 2022, AARO is primarily tasked with the surveillance, identification, and mitigation of potential threats within proximity to military installations, training areas, and areas of strategic importance. Despite accumulating a substantial volume of reports, Director Kirkpatrick conveyed during a public hearing in April that thus far, no credible evidence has emerged to substantiate assertions of extraterrestrial activities or technology beyond the confines of established physics. AARO underscores its commitment to a scientific, data-driven approach in all investigative pursuits, assuring adherence to the course of scientific inquiry, wherever it may lead.
