New York Woman Dies While Trying To Cross The Street

The man involved was allowed by police to leave the scene, and friends and family of Priscilla Loke want to know why.

Friends and family of a longtime New York City educator are asking for more information to be released in an investigation into her death, after the woman was killed by an e-bike while crossing the street.

Priscilla Loke died days after she was hit by a man riding an electric bike in the Chinatown section of Manhattan on Sept. 5. She suffered a head injury when she was thrown to the ground in the crash.

The NYPD released images Monday of the man they believe to be the cyclist but have not talked to him since the morning of the crash when they allowed him to leave the scene.

A letter has been sent to the NYPD to request answers about why the suspect was allowed to leave the scene, according to WABC .

“A video shown on several mainstream TV channels captured the collision and the biker speaking with a police officer, then leaving the scene while Ms. Loke is on the ground with severe injuries to her head and spine,” local news site the Village Sun reported the letter stated. “The family of Priscilla Loke and the community rely on first responders and those investigating this incident to take their duties seriously.”

Loke was a preschool program’s assistant director at the Chinatown Head Start.

A group called the Committee to Support Priscilla was formed in the wake of her death. It wants access to the police report on the incident.

They held a news conference on Monday to raise interest in the case.  They are asking the cyclist to contact the police.

“Come forward because the family here deserves some answer what happened, one way or another,”  said Wellington Chen, the head of the Chinatown Partnership.

On Wednesday the NYPD told The Messenger that there were no updates and the investigation continues.
