Local Resident Indicted For Gunpoint Assault And Robbery In East HarlemManhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. has reported the indictment of Albert Brown, 34, for sexual assault and robbery in East Harlem. Brown allegedly robbed a 24-year-old woman and forced her into a sexual act at gunpoint. The incident took place on November 1, 2023, and Brown was indicted on December 7, 2023. He is facing charges of Predatory Sexual Assault, Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree, two counts of Robbery in the First Degree, and Sexual Abuse in the First Degree.

The victim was walking near East 117th Street between 3rd and Lexington Avenues when Brown, dressed in a sweatshirt and ski mask, approached her. He took her cellphone and threatened her with a gun. Brown then assaulted the woman before leaving the scene. He was arrested on November 9, 2023, wearing the same clothes from the incident.

District Attorney Bragg thanked the Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Bureau for their work in seeking justice for survivors. He urged anyone who has been a victim of or witness to sexual violence to report it.

Assistant D.A. Katherine Demartini and Stephanie Ritter are handling the prosecution of this case, supervised by Assistant D.A. Nicole Blumberg and Executive Assistant D.A. Justin McNabney. Melissa Mourges, Coleen Balbert, Chris Kamnik, and Noah Taylor also contributed to the case.

D.A. Bragg expressed his gratitude to the NYPD, especially Detectives Rosita Williams and Jerald Rivera of the Manhattan Special Victims Squad, and the staff of the NYC Office of Chief Medical Examiner, particularly Katey Nori and Shannon Talty. Brown, a Brooklyn resident, is considered innocent until proven guilty.
