Robert Trout III warned on Instagram, ‘If you’re from New York City, do not take the train on Thursday evening’.
A 19-year-old Floridian was arrested on Wednesday after going online and threatening to carry out a Thanksgiving Day mass shooting on a crowded New York City subway
Police in Pinellas Park identified the man behind the alleged threat as Robert Trout III.
Citing an arrest affidavit , WFLA reports an anonymous tip was phoned into police about the threat, which was shared on social media.
“I’m gonna shoot anybody I see on that f–king train,” Trout wrote in the Instagram post. “If you’re from New York City, do not take the train on Thursday evening.”
Those comments allegedly accompanied a video showing Trout “handling firearms in a reckless manner.”
Police said the suspect flashed two Glock .40-caliber pistols in the footage and said he had 60 rounds of ammunition and was intent on killing 60 people.
“Multiple sources,” including his own mother, reportedly confirmed Trout’s identity.
Trout actually had ties to New York, and was expected to be moving back soon.
Trout was charged with threatening a mass shooting and unlawful use of a two-way communication device.
It is likely he will also face federal charges, as he has been remanded to the Pinellas County Jail for an “FBI courtesy hold,” jail records show.
