FDA Officials Warn of Potential Winter Fatalities as Public Trust in Vaccines Declines

FDA leaders say thousands of Americans likely to die this winter because too many don’t trust vaccines

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), vaccination prevents 3.5-5 million deaths every year from various diseases like diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, influenza and measles. In the U.S. it is mandatory to demonstrate the effectiveness and favorable safety profile of vaccines and it is a must that authorized vaccines are manufactured with high quality. There are several surveillance systems established to continuously monitor the safety of vaccines.

Despite the caution and supervision taken in the development of vaccines and their strong and compelling benefits towards saving individual lives and enhancing the population’s health outcomes, an increasing number of U.S. citizens are rejecting the idea of taking vaccines due to several reasons, ranging from safety precautions to religious beliefs.

Smallpox and polio have been completely eradicated due to the effectiveness and defense mechanisms developed in the human body by the various vaccines, but this can be dangerous, as people no longer see these highly infectious diseases as a threat to their health and take the vaccination procedures very lightly.
