Michelle Roselli, a 36-year-old resident of Spotsylvania County, was handed a six-year prison term on Thursday for her role in causing the tragic crash. The Garden State Parkway accident took place on January 26, 2020, at milepost 64 of the southbound lanes of the Parkway, claiming the life of Tri Nguyen, a 66-year-old Berkeley resident. The Garden State Parkway accident unfolded when Roselli, high on fentanyl, collided with a 2001 Toyota Scion carrying three passengers. The Garden State Parkway accident sent the vehicle careening into a wooded area, resulting in the untimely death of Tri Nguyen and injuries to the other occupants. The Garden State Parkway accident, a stark reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence, left a community in shock and mourning. After a thorough investigation, authorities established Roselli’s responsibility for the Garden State Parkway accident. She was behind the wheel of a 2012 Honda Civic when she failed to maintain her lane, leading to the collision. A subsequent blood test revealed the presence of 8.6 nanograms of fentanyl in her system, rendering her unfit to operate a motor vehicle.

In May of the following year, Roselli pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide, assault by auto, and driving under the influence. Last Thursday, she was sentenced to six years in prison by State Superior Court Judge Guy P. Ryan in Toms River. The devastating repercussions of the Garden State Parkway accident reverberate far beyond its immediate aftermath. Tri Nguyen’s life was tragically cut short, leaving a void in the lives of his loved ones. Additionally, Thuy Duong, another passenger in the Scion, endured injuries that required rehabilitation. The Garden State Parkway accident serves as a somber reminder of the importance of responsible driving and the dire consequences of driving while impaired. Michelle Roselli’s sentencing is a testament to the justice system’s commitment to upholding accountability for actions that lead to loss of life. The State of New Jersey, represented by County Senior Assistant Prosecutor Jamie Schron, ensured that Roselli faced the consequences of her Garden State Parkway accident. The sentence sends a strong message about the severity of driving under the influence and the devastating impact it can have on families and communities.
