Fulton County Board’s Proposed 12.80% Property Tax Hike Sparks Public Hearings for Input

The Fulton County Board of Commissioners has announced its plan to raise the General Fund property taxes for 2023 by 12.80 percent above the rollback millage rate. According to South Fulton Neighbor, this decision comes after a reassessment of property values, which is required by law when recent property sales indicate an increase in fair market value for specific properties.

To calculate the new millage rate, Georgia law mandates that a rollback millage rate be computed, aiming to generate the same revenue as the previous year’s millage rate would have if no reassessment had taken place. However, the budget adopted by the Board of Commissioners calls for a millage rate higher than the rollback rate, leading to the need for three public hearings to be held to gather public input on the proposed tax increase.
