Portland Police and Auto Theft Task Force Bust Alleged ‘Serial Car Thief’ in Dramatic Raid, Recover Cache of Stolen Vehicles and Incriminating Evidence

In a successful joint operation, the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office Auto Theft Task Force, along with members of the Portland Police Bureau’s Stolen Vehicle Operation, apprehended a suspected ‘serial car thief’ in Northeast Portland. According to reports, the accused, 24-year-old Jesse Brower, had a history of run-ins with the law, having been arrested twice in 2022 on charges that included possession of a stolen vehicle. After pleading guilty and agreeing to treatment last June, he was released on probation.

However, this past weekend, Brower was caught again at his apartment after evading Multnomah County Sheriff’s Deputies in a stolen car in mid-July. According to FOX12, a search of his residence led to the recovery of incriminating evidence, including 17 car stereos, two stolen license plates from Oregon and Washington, and a bucket filled with various keys. Shockingly, Brower admitted to stealing between 15 and 20 cars, attributing his actions to a pursuit of drugs and money. He also confessed to taking orders from other individuals, as reported.

The case highlights the widespread impact of car theft on the community, with victims left without recourse when their vehicles are stolen. Deputy District Attorney Cody Linderholm stressed the seriousness of stolen vehicle cases and expressed concern about potentially dozens of unidentified victims who could be facing significant financial losses, as reported. While Brower is presumed innocent until proven guilty, Linderholm emphasized that the focus should be on the community, hoping that the arrest will deter other criminals and lead to the recovery of numerous stolen cars.

In conclusion, the apprehension of Jesse Brower, a suspected serial car thief with a history of stolen vehicle offenses, is a significant win for the Multnomah County Auto Theft Task Force and Portland Police. The recovery of stolen property and Brower’s confession of multiple car thefts underscores the impact of such crimes on the community. According to reports, Deputy District Attorney Linderholm’s call to focus on the victims and the seriousness of stolen vehicle cases reflects the authorities’ commitment to combating auto theft and bringing justice to those affected.
