Weekly Safety Report: Fire Injures Firefighters, Drug Bust, and 6-Year-Old Becomes Honorary Officer in West New York.

Three firefighters were injured and multiple residents were displaced by a three-alarm fire in West New York. The fire started on Thanksgiving Day and caused significant damage to an apartment building. In a separate incident, five gang members were arrested in a drug bust where $20,000 worth of cocaine was recovered. Lastly, a 6-year-old girl had her wish granted to become an honorary police officer of the West New York Police Department.

Weekly Safety Report In West New York

Three firefighters were hospitalized with broken bones after responding to a three-alarm fire in West New York. The fire started on Thanksgiving Day near Bergenline Avenue and 53rd Street. Witnesses reported hearing a loud boom and seeing flames coming from the apartment building, which also housed a first-floor business. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and multiple residents will be displaced as a result.

Five members of the Trinitarios Dominican street gang were arrested in a West New York drug bust. The arrest followed a four-month probe, and approximately $20,000 worth of cocaine was recovered. The individuals taken into custody without incident were Wanderson Ceballo-Ramos, Ingri Cruz-Villatoro, Wellington Cruz, Angel Diaz, and Christian Gomez. The arrest was made during the execution of court authorized search warrants.

A 6-year-old girl named Sorianny Vasquez had her wish granted to become an honorary police officer of the West New York Police Department. Sorianny, who has always dreamed of being a police officer, received a tailored police jacket, badge, stars, and patch. She arrived at the police department wearing her uniform, complete with shades and a pager. The surprise was made possible by the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and Sorianny received a salute from her peers.
