The LA crime wave has been forcing high-end retail stores to shut down.
The LA Crime Wave’s Negative Effects
Beverly Hills is experiencing a decline in sales in high-end retail stores located in the area and is starting to become a ghost town due to the LA crime wave and a series of high-end gang robberies. Videos uploaded on TikTok by a user called cody90210 show numerous shuttered businesses, including luxury brands like Barneys New York and Escada due to the LA crime wave.
Other well-known stores and restaurants like Chanel, Rite Aid, Barnes and Noble, Niketown, Chipotle, and Starbucks have also closed down due to the LA crime wave. This is in contrast to the city’s glamorous reputation. Some businesses, such as Saks Fifth, Hermes, and Gucci, have managed to survive despite the LA crime wave.
However, according to a published article by the New York Post, the remaining businesses amidst the LA crime wave are now facing a surge in crime, which led to the creation of a task force focused on retail crime composed of various law enforcement agencies.
Arrests have been made during the LA crime wave, but the number of burglaries in LA has still increased compared from last year’s burglaries. California Governor Gavin Newsom has announced the involvement of the California Highway Patrol in combating the LA crime wave.
The CHP’s Organized Retail Crime Task Force has been successful in helping with the LA crime wave and has been making arrests and recovering stolen merchandise since its establishment in 2019.
Policy Of Zero Cash Bail
In a published article by the Daily Mail, brutal ransacking and luxury goods reselling are rampant due to the zero cash bail policy. Those arrested for such a crime could be released without paying upfront.
