Texas Governor Abbott To Bus More Migrants To NYC Inspite Of Overcapacity Concerns

Texas Governor Abbott to Bus More Migrants to NYC Despite Overcapacity Concerns.

Governor Abbott continues controversial migrant bussing’s strategy despite New York City’s capacity concerns.

In a move that has sparked controversy and concern, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced on Friday that his state will continue busing migrants from border towns that are struggling under the strain of current immigration policies to New York City. This decision comes despite New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s insistence that the city is already at “capacity.”

“Texas border towns should not have to shoulder the burden of Biden’s open border policies,” Abbott stated on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. “Texas will continue to send buses to sanctuary cities to provide relief to overrun border towns.”

Federal Aid Denied, NYC Mayor Pleads for Help

Governor Hochul has asked for more federal aid to assist with the unprecedented influx of migrants arriving in the city. However, her request was denied by the White House, which asserted that the necessary funding needs to come from Congress.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams voiced grave concerns earlier this month about the impact of the ongoing migrant crisis on the city. “This crisis could destroy New York City,” he warned, pleading for increased state and federal aid to manage the massive influx of new arrivals.

$140 Million in Federal Funding for Shelters

Despite the city’s pleas for help, New York has received approximately $140 million in federal funding for shelters. This makes it the city with the largest allocation of such funds outside of those located directly on the southwest border.
