A man tied to the New York City daycare business where a 1-year-old boy suffered a deadly overdose from exposure to fentanyl was arrested in Mexico after fleeing the U.S., according to a report Tuesday.Felix Herrera was captured by Mexican authorities and U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents while riding a bus in Sinaloa, the New York Post reported, citing unidentified law enforcement sources.
He’s expected to be extradited to New York to face charges along with his wife and two others charged in the Sept. 15 death of Nicholas Dominic, the Post said.
Herrera was allegedly caught on surveillance video carrying two trash bags of evidence out of Divino Niño Daycare New York City after four toddlers overdosed on fentanyl there.
Authorities said the dangerous narcotic was stashed in a compartment hidden behind a trap door in the floor near where children took their naps.
Herrera is married to Grei Mendez, 36, who ran the daycare operation in a one-bedroom apartment, according to the Post.
Mendez, Carlisto Acevedo Brito, 41, and Renny Antonio Parra Paredes, 38, were all charged Monday in U.S. District Court in Manhattan with distributing narcotics resulting in death.
The crime carries a maximum penalty of life in prison.
