‘This scene was chaos: multiple victims, a house on fire and a madman on a rampage on a mission’.
Two adults and two children were stabbed to death in a Queens home by a 38-year-old “madman”, who is seemingly related to them, leaving behind a scene that first responders described as “chaos.”
The alleged assailant, Courtney Gordon, also attacked two New York police officers with a kitchen knife, before he was shot and killed by officers, police said in a Sunday press conference following the early morning incident.
Officers first stopped Gordon to engage in a conversation outside the residence. After speaking for a few seconds, he reportedly attacked the officers, stabbing one in the neck and chest and the other in the head.
First responders were initially unable to enter the Far Rockaway residence because a couch had been set on fire, apparently after the stabbing.
“This scene was chaos,” said Patrick Hendry, the head of the police officer’s union, in a Sunday morning press conference . “Multiple victims, a house on fire and a madman on a rampage on a mission.”
NYPD Chief Jeff Madrey told reporters that two officers initially responded to a 911 call from a young female, who “stated that a cousin is killing her family members.”
A 12-year-old boy and an adult man and woman were found dead inside the home. An 11-year-old girl was found injured outside the home and was transported to a nearby children’s hospital, where she died from her injuries.
One of the victims –a 61-year-old woman – is currently being treated for injuries at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to NYPD officials.
Gordon was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. He had one previous arrest for a domestic violence incident in the Bronx.
The incident remains under investigation. The names of the victims have not yet been released to the public.
