GRAVESEND, Brooklyn (December 9, 2023) – A livery driver, Sergio Zamora-Mendoza, has been arrested and charged with manslaughter and assault in connection with the fatal beating of two cousins in Brooklyn. The incident occurred on December 7th, 2023, around 4:40 AM, when 66-year-old Carlos Guaman and his 52-year-old cousin were returning home from a trip.
As the cousins exited the vehicle on West 9th Street near Avenue T, a dispute arose with the driver, leading to a brutal attack. Surveillance footage shows Zamora-Mendoza punching both victims repeatedly in the head. The 52-year-old man sustained severe injuries and remains in critical but stable condition at Maimonides Medical Center. Sadly, Carlos Guaman succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Following the attack, Zamora-Mendoza fled the scene but was later apprehended by police. He has been charged with manslaughter and two counts of assault in the second and third degree. This tragic incident has deeply affected the Gravesend community, with residents expressing their grief and offering support to the victims’ family.
