According to FOX 44/KWKT, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) has confirmed the passing of Shayla Angelina Boniello, who was convicted of the murder of a 20-month-old Rockdale girl. The inmate, also known as Shawn Boniello, passed away on Saturday, September 23rd while in custody.
In November 2020, Boniello admitted to the Capital Murder of Patricia Ann Rader and was sentenced to life imprisonment. According to investigators, Boniello physically assaulted the child, resulting in her death in December 2018. The guilty plea was made official, and the life sentence was handed down. The tragic incident highlights the importance of protecting vulnerable children from harm and holding those responsible for their mistreatment accountable for their actions.
When FOX 44 News inquired about the circumstances surrounding Boniello’s death and whether or not an investigation is being conducted, TDCJ responded that such information is not currently available. Boniello was housed in the Michael Unit located in Tennessee Colony, Texas.
According to Rader’s family, Boniello had previously beaten Patricia on multiple occasions while the toddler was under his care.
According to the family of Patricia Ann “Annie” Rader, her grandfather had been granted temporary custody of her. The family has revealed that the grandfather was romantically involved with Boniello at the time.
In exchange for a life sentence without the possibility of parole, Boniello admitted his guilt to Capital Murder.
According to FOX 44 News, Bill Torrey, the District Attorney of Milam County, made a decision not to seek the death penalty for Boniello. Torrey explained that he based his decision on the fact that Boniello had a brain injury and no history of violent behavior.
