Northern California Police Officers Face Legal Trouble Amid Allegations of ‘Police Abuse of Power’ Involving Excessive Force and Offensive Texts

Three police officers from Northern California, namely Eric Rombough, Devon Wenger, and Mortez Amiri, are facing legal trouble due to ‘police abuse of power’ regarding their alleged involvement in using excessive force and sending offensive text messages. According to NBC News, the officers are accused of conspiring to mistreat and threaten residents of Antioch, a city near San Francisco.

The investigation of this ‘police abuse of power’ case began after it was revealed that 14 officers from the Antioch Police Department had exchanged derogatory messages earlier this year. The officers now face charges like conspiracy and destruction of records, as reported.

Allegations of ‘Police Abuse of Power’: Officers Accused of Dog Biting Incidents and Offensive Texts; Separate Cases Reveal Steroid Distribution and Fraud Charges

According to AOL, Mortez Amiri, previously a K-9 unit officer, is accused of ordering his police dog to bite at least 28 people between 2019 and 2021. He is said to have collected pictures and videos of the injuries caused by the dog bites and shared them with his colleagues. Devon Wenger and Eric Rombough, who worked in specialized units, are also implicated in the ‘police abuse of power’ wrongdoing. Rombough allegedly fired less-lethal weapons at 11 individuals in less than a year and kept the used ammunition as souvenirs.

A separate case emerged involving Wenger and another officer, accused of distributing steroids and tampering with records. Amiri faces additional charges related to wire fraud and an alleged education fraud scheme.
