At approximately 8:56 AM on Sunday, January 12, 2025, Conroe Police Officers responded to a call about a possible suicide at a residence located in the 2900 block of Palominos Way.
Upon arrival, officers discovered 36-year-old Vonnie Clay Holcomb sitting in the driver’s seat of a 1995 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup truck, slumped over with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Initial evidence led investigators to believe the incident was a suicide.
However, as the investigation continued, video surveillance footage from a nearby residence contradicted the initial assumption. The footage showed a male exiting the passenger side of the vehicle and walking away from the scene. This discovery prompted police to reclassify the incident as a homicide.
Further investigation led officers to 61-year-old Everton A. Edwards of Conroe, who was identified as a suspect in the case. An arrest warrant was obtained, and on Monday, January 13th, Edwards was taken into custody without incident. He is charged with Murder and his bond has been set at $150,000.
Edwards and Holcomb were known to each other, though a motive for the homicide has yet to be determined. The Conroe Police Department continues to investigate the case and has extended its condolences to Holcomb’s family during this difficult time.
The investigation remains ongoing.
