MALIBU, CA – The FBI is investigating a drone collision involving a firefighting aircraft that occurred on the morning of January 9, 2025. The aircraft, known as a “super scooper,” was conducting fire suppression operations at the Palisades Fire near Malibu when it struck an unauthorized drone flying in violation of an FAA temporary flight restriction (TFR).
The collision caused a 3 x 6 inch hole in the left wing of the aircraft, which was able to land safely. Parts of the heavily damaged drone were recovered at the scene. No injuries were reported in the incident.
