Major Renovation at Terminal B to Disrupt Operations at George Bush Intercontinental Airport for One Year

Major Renovation at Terminal B to Disrupt Operations at George Bush Intercontinental Airport for One Year
Rendering of new Terminal B Lobby

Starting January 21, 2025, the Terminal B lobby at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) will close for approximately one year as part of a $2.5 billion renovation project aimed at expanding and updating the terminal. The renovation, a collaboration between United Airlines, the City of Houston, and its partners, will enhance the airport’s capacity and amenities to better accommodate travelers.

While the lobby area will be under construction, gates B3-B31 will remain operational. Check-in, TSA security, and baggage claim services for Terminal B flights will be redirected to Terminal C. Passengers traveling from Terminal B will need to take the Skyway train to reach their gates.

United Airlines is leading the transformation with plans to add 22 new gates, an upgraded baggage handling system, and cutting-edge amenities. “This expansion not only enhances the passenger experience but also strengthens Houston’s role as a global hub,” said Phil Griffith, United’s vice president of airport operations.

Though the A and B parking garages will remain open, passengers are encouraged to park in the Terminal C garage if possible, with complimentary shuttle service provided between Terminals B and C. For the first two weeks, “Terminal B Transformation Ambassadors” in pink vests will assist travelers in navigating the temporary changes.

The renovation is expected to be completed by 2026, though a specific end date has not yet been set. Travelers are advised to arrive two to three hours prior to departure to account for potential delays.
