Plymouth Barracuda: From a $500 Investment to $2.2 Million Valuation

Gary Dodane’s unexpected investment in a 1970 Plymouth Hemi Barracuda or simply ‘Plymouth Barracuda’ has turned out to be a highly lucrative venture. The Plymouth Barracuda was purchased in 1983 for just $500, Dodane’s Alpine White-over-black muscle car is now up for sale at an astounding $2.2 million. The reason behind the high price tag is the car’s historical significance as the first completed Hemi Cuda to come off the production line.

The Plymouth Barracuda, initially introduced in 1964, gained legendary status as a muscle car in 1970 with the debut of its third generation, featuring the new E-Body and a powerful 7.0-liter Hemi V-8 engine. Dodane’s particular Plymouth Barracuda, with the VIN BS23ROB100003, holds special value as it was only the third of its kind produced, with the first two getting scrapped during production. Out of the 652 Plymouth Barracuda produced in its first year, only 284, including Dodane’s, came with a four-speed manual transmission. This was reported in Robb Report.

A Prized Relic on Display: Plymouth Barracuda’s Remarkable Condition and Dodane’s Lucrative Investment Journey

The Plymouth Barracuda seems to be in good condition with just 17,729 miles on the odometer, and it has spent much of its time under Dodane’s ownership on display at the National Automotive & Truck Museum. Initially hesitant about the $500 price tag, Dodane has come to realize that this purchase has likely been the best investment he ever made.

Despite having attempted to sell the Plymouth Barracuda before at a higher price of $3.2 million, Dodane has not yet found a buyer willing to meet his asking price. Even though the current listed price has been reduced to $2.2 million, a buyer has not yet come forward. Regardless, Dodane can expect a substantial return on his original $500 investment, solidifying his Plymouth Barracuda as an unexpected and highly valuable asset.
