Chiefs Arrive in Denver Following Four-Hour Flight Delay Due to Winter Storm

The Kansas City Chiefs faced significant travel delays on their way to Denver due to a severe winter storm that swept through the Midwest. The team’s charter flight, originally scheduled to leave Kansas City, was grounded for over four hours as icy conditions led to the temporary closure of Kansas City International Airport (KCI). The Chiefs were en route to play the Denver Broncos in their final regular season game, which is scheduled for Sunday afternoon.

Weather Disrupts Travel Plans

On the day of their scheduled departure, the Chiefs’ flight was delayed starting at approximately 2:50 p.m. as ice started to accumulate on the runways at KCI. Passengers aboard the chartered plane remained onboard, waiting patiently while the airport remained closed. Reports indicated that a trace of ice was still present on the runways as late as 5 p.m., further pushing the departure time back.

Delayed Departure

After many anxious hours, the Airport reopened just after 5 p.m., allowing the Chiefs to finally take off. The team’s flight lifted off shortly before 6 p.m., arriving in Denver hours later than originally planned. The players stepped off the plane to a warm welcome, even sharing a short video on social media showing their arrival.

Upcoming Game Against the Broncos

Despite the travel hiccups, the Chiefs are all set to face the Broncos in a must-watch game on Sunday at 3:25 p.m. This game is particularly pivotal as both teams are competing for lower playoff seedings in the AFC. Even though the Chiefs recently secured the AFC’s No. 1 seed, they still aim to keep their momentum alive against division rivals, the Broncos. Fans are eager to see how the players will perform, especially after the stress of travel.

The Team’s Focus

The players and coaching staff of the Kansas City Chiefs have expressed their commitment to overcome the challenges posed by the delay. Head Coach Andy Reid emphasized the importance of focusing on the game, despite the unexpected travel issues, as the team aims to maintain their winning streak heading into the postseason. Fans can expect an exciting match-up filled with talent and unyielding determination from both teams as they hit the field.
