Saturday Morning Weather Update: Anticipated Arrival of Arctic Front Later Today

A chilly beginning to the weekend greets us with temperatures over 20 degrees lower than yesterday. Alongside the cold conditions, attention is drawn to an approaching Arctic front, expected to generate a line of snow squalls by midday.

A Wind Advisory is in effect until 5 p.m. today, with peak gusts reaching up to 50 mph once again.

On Sunday, a persistently brisk and cold atmosphere prevails, featuring high temperatures reaching the mid-40s. Despite the cold, the day’s “Feels Like” temperatures hover in the 30s. Anticipate a blend of sunshine and clouds throughout the day.

While there is a possibility of a line of snow squalls, the latest model data suggests that the majority of the snow may stay to the north. Nevertheless, the unmistakable arrival of the Arctic front will be accompanied by gusty winds and a reinforced cold spell trailing behind the frontal boundary. These snow squalls have the potential to reduce visibility and deposit a rapid dusting of snow.

Tonight, an augmentation in cloud cover is anticipated, accompanied by overnight lows settling in the low 20s. Additionally, there is a slight breeze, with peak gusts reaching up to 20 mph.

On Monday, MLK Day, a few more clouds are expected to be present as attention is directed towards the next potential storm system. Monday is projected to stay dry but chilly, with highs reaching only the low 30s. There exists a slight chance of a flurry, particularly south of Baltimore. It is advisable to layer up if outdoor activities are planned.

By Monday night, mostly cloudy skies are anticipated with the possibility of accumulating snow, particularly after 8 p.m. Overnight lows are expected to dip into the mid to upper 20s.
