Basil, Mt Pleasant is one of seven Thai restaurants in a small chain–five in South Carolina, the other two in North Carolina. This is from their website:
Basil is the realization of the lifelong dream of Henry and Chai Eang, brothers who immigrated to the United States from turbulent 1970s Cambodia. From speaking not a word of English, to creating award-winning dining experiences throughout the Carolinas, the duo has married hard work with passion to bring authentic Thai cuisine to their new home.
If the other restaurants are as good as the Mt P location, the Eang brothers have done well. My wife and I dined there with 2 other couples last night, and as usual, Basil did not disappoint. We started the meal with several appetizers, egg rolls, which were very hot and crisp, Chicken Satay, with peanut sauce, my least favorite, steamed beef dumplings, and chicken wings. The wings were not popular with the group, so I happily finished them myself. The appetizers came out promptly and the service was courteous without being overbearing.
For our main courses, my wife had Shrimp fried rice which she thoroughly enjoyed, I went with a spicy flat noodle dish Pad Kee Mow, and opted for the pork protein. the meat was a bit dry and bland. The noodles were excellent. I would order the dish again with chicken or no protein at all. Our dining companions all enjoyed their dishes. One had Vegetable Delight with a hot sauce that she loved.
Midway through our meal someone from management came over to check on us, they were happy to give us 3 checks and even did the math to split the appetizers 3 ways. I think the thing I appreciated the most was the food was hot and seemed to be right off the stove when it got to the table.
