Meteorologists forecast a massive storm developing across the East Coast over the weekend, bringing strong gusts, rain, and snow.
The National Weather Center said in a post on X that the storm will bring “a wet and unsettled weekend for much of the East, with snow for northern areas.”
Much of the East Coast, particularly Boston and New York, are under storm watch through the weekend, according to alerts from the National Weather Service.
Winds reaching up to 35 knots per hour are expected in the Nantucket and Boston Harbor areas, and a storm watch is in effect from Sunday night to Monday afternoon, according to an NWS alert issued Saturday morning.
“Very strong winds will cause hazardous seas which could capsize or damage vessels and reduce visibility,” the alert says.
Meteorologists also predict strong wind gusts for the New York City region, reaching up to 50 knots. An alert for the area has been issued from Sunday afternoon through late Sunday night.
Fox Weather reported that the storm system brewing along the East Coast is a result of a low-pressure system that comes after flooding in the Pacific Northwest this week .
Cities like Pittsburgh, Buffalo, and New York will get rain first over the weekend before the storm system makes its way over more eastward. According to Fox Weather, the wind will remain until Tuesday, but rain is expected to clear by late Monday.
Weather forecasts show projected snowfall accumulations of up to 10 inches across the East Coast.
