A 20-year-old Minneapolis man, Eric Harrell Knight, announced his plea of guilty in federal court to his involvement in a brutal carjacking ring targeting rideshare drivers in the Twin Cities.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office charged Knight with conspiracy to use, carry, and brandish firearms during and in relation to crimes of violence, as court documents laid out the disturbing details of their modus operandi. According to the investigations carried out by the FBI and Minneapolis police, Knight’s plea of guilty was rooted along with other members of his crime ring, orchestrated a series of heinous carjackings and assaults on Lyft and Uber drivers during the fall of 2021. The chilling pattern involved ordering rides and then ambushing the unsuspecting drivers upon their arrival, potentially causing his plea of guilty.
