Miami, FL – Julian Jimenez, a 27-year-old man from New York, was sentenced to 35 years in federal prison on November 1 for a harrowing attempted murder incident in Miami. Jimenez had flown down to Miami with the intent to kill his victim, whom he had surveilled extensively before carrying out the attack.

Upon arriving in Miami, Jimenez spent four days surveilling the victim at both his residence and business. Clad in a mask and gloves and armed with a firearm, Jimenez entered the victim’s residential community. As the victim was about to pull into his garage, Jimenez approached from behind and opened fire, discharging eight rounds. Although the victim survived, he sustained three gunshot wounds, necessitating surgery to remove the projectiles lodged in his body.

Jimenez had pleaded guilty to the charges in August, leading to the recent sentencing. U.S. District Judge Roy K. Altman imposed the 35-year prison term, to be followed by five years of supervised release. A restitution hearing is scheduled for January 30, 2024.

U.S. Attorney Markenzy Lapointe for the Southern District of Florida and Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey B. Veltri of FBI, Miami Field Office, announced the sentence. The FBI Miami’s Violent Crimes and Fugitive Task Force conducted the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Abbie D. Waxman, Michael E. Gilfarb, and Katherine W. Guthrie prosecuting the case. This incident underscores the significance of law enforcement efforts in swiftly addressing and prosecuting violent crimes.
