Harvard Students Support Hamas, DeSantis Calls Them “Disgrace”

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) denounced the student groups at Harvard University, and others, who supported Hamas in its attack against Israel, calling the display of support a “total disgrace.”

“So when you look at what’s happening at places like Harvard and these other places where students are signing these letters, supporting Hamas terrorists, you know, something is really, really wrong with our education system,” DeSantis, who graduated from Harvard Law School in 2005, said at a forum in New Hampshire on Saturday.

His comments come after a letter, co-signed by 33 student organizations at the Ivy League school, was shared on social media lashing out at Israel, claiming the nation was “fully responsible” for the ongoing war against the Palestinian militant group Hamas.

The letter came out the same day Hamas invaded Israel in a surprise attack a week ago. Israeli Prime Minster Benjamin Netanyahu declared war on the group in response.

Harvard University President Claudine Gay spoke out amid national backlash over the letter. She emphasized that the students who signed onto the letter did not represent the school.

In the wake of the turmoil, at least five of the groups have withdrawn their signature from the letter.

Other colleges and professors have also been entangled in controversy over their reactions to the Israel-Hamas war. Campuses are seeing tensions rise as students react to the war and protest.

Stanford University had to release a statement after it was reported that a “non-faculty instructor” specifically called out students in class based on their backgrounds.

A Yale professor is also facing a petition to resign after she posted online asking for prayers for Palestinians.

“This country needs a lot of work, we’re not going to succeed if our education system is churning out nothing but garbage,” DeSantis said. “And what I saw at Harvard was a total disgrace.”

“I would run the other way if I saw any of those kids wanting a job from me, I can tell you that,” he added.
