Hero NYPD officers save man hanging from New York’s Manhattan Bridge.
Heart-stopping footage has shown a man dangling from the Manhattan Bridge in New York City after threatening to jump off. The event unfolded on Thursday, September 7 when the New York City Police Department (NYPD) was called to reports of a “distressed” man “experiencing a crisis” and hanging from the nearly 7,000ft structure.
A video taken at the site, giving an aerial view of the dramatic incident as it happened, shows the man suspended over the water, having climbed to the outer side of the bridge, and clinging on to the railings. His knees tremble as he makes a desperate attempt to stay on the bridge’s ledge, which is the only thing keeping him from falling.
At least two or three officers can be seen assisting the man, with one of the personnel proceeding to bravely climb over the railing to join the man and haul him back to safety. Members of the public gather nearby in concern.
The NYPD confirmed the man was “successfully rescued” and taken to hospital for treatment. It is not known whether he sustained any injuries.
