The members of the House Oversight Committee are responding to requests from their Democratic counterparts to make the transcripts of the interviews conducted as part of the panel’s investigation into Hunter Biden investigation available to the public.
Hunter Biden Investigation Transcript
Republicans believe that a transcript from a former FBI agent, which was made public on Monday by the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, supports a crucial claim made by an IRS whistleblower regarding the handling of the tax crimes probe into Hunter Biden investigation, the president’s son.
Democrats, though, have countered that the interview refutes GOP assertions that undue political influence was used in the inquiry.
The two parties have sparred over the past several weeks since the July closed-door interview with the now-retired FBI special supervisory agent who headed the IRS- and FBI-led probe against Hunter Biden investigation. The transcript has redacted the agent’s name.
Whistleblower Testimony on Hunter Biden Investigation
In particular, Republicans are interested in how the FBI agent’s testimony supports a claim made by an IRS whistleblower who expressed concern about how a planned attempt to interview Hunter Biden investigation at his California home on December 8, 2020, played out. This IRS whistleblower’s testimony raised concerns about how the tax crimes investigation into Hunter Biden was conducted.
A former FBI agent “confirms IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley’s testimony that Secret Service headquarters and the Biden transition team were informed,” Comer stated in a press statement on Monday. When the Biden transition team was informed that Shapley and the FBI agent were going to interview Hunter Biden in December 2020, they were instructed not to approach him and to wait for his call, which never came and they were never able to interview amidst Hunter Biden investigation.
Since many weeks ago, House Republicans have refused to provide the transcript, according to Representative Jamie Raskin, the top Democrat on the oversight committee. She claims this is done in an effort to misrepresent the nature of the evidence that House Republicans claim to have against Hunter Biden investigation.
