Robert Chambers NYC’s ‘Preppy Killer’
According to state records, Robert Chambers, also referred to as the “Preppy Killer,” was freed after serving 15 years in jail for drug and assault-related offenses.
After pleading guilty to strangling Jennifer Levin in New York City’s Central Park in the summer of 1986, Chambers served a comparable period of time behind bars. When a jury could not agree after nine days of deliberations, Chambers agreed to plead guilty to killing 18-year-old Levin.
After being freed from prison for that offense in 2003, he quickly got into legal trouble once more.
Robert Chambers in five years supervision
Chambers, 56, was released on Tuesday after serving 15 of his 19-year term at Shawangunk Correctional Facility for drug and assault-related offenses. He will continue to be under supervision until 2028.
Four years after his release from prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter for killing a woman after they left a pub together, he was detained in 2007 for drug sales out of his flat. According to FOX News, at the time, his defense team said that he and Levin had been engaging in “rough sex” and that he accidentally strangled her to death because she was hurting him.
