Amari Pollard, 19, faces this severe charge, alongside a firearms offense, in connection with the untimely death of 18-year-old graduate Shawn Jackson. This development came to light as the grand jury rendered its decision recently, as reported by WRIC-TV.
The horrifying incident unfolded just moments after the graduation ceremony at Huguenot High School in Richmond, Virginia. Shawn Jackson, along with his stepfather Lorenzo Smith, 36, lost their lives to the gunfire. Panic and chaos gripped the scene, and hundreds of attendees fled in fear outside the Altria Theater, located in the state capital. Tragically, five other individuals sustained injuries in the shooting, while at least 12 more were treated for various afflictions such as anxiety, resulting from the chaotic situation, according to AP News.

Initially charged with two counts of second-degree murder for the shooting deaths of both Jackson and Smith, Amari Pollard is now scheduled to appear in the Richmond General District Court on the initial charges. However, it’s important to note that the second-degree murder charge related to Lorenzo Smith’s death is still pending in the General District Court, as confirmed by Richmond Commonwealth’s Attorney Colette McEachin.
