Police arrested two New York women accused of assaulting and then tearing a Star of David necklace off a Jewish woman who tried to prevent them from ripping down Israeli hostage posters, earlier this month.
Mehwish Omer, 26, and Stephanie Gonzalez, 25, were taken into custody last Monday in connection with the alleged Nov. 9 attack on a Manhattan street, according to the New York Police Department.
Omer has been charged with hate crime assault and hate crime criminal mischief, while Gonzalez has been charged with hate crime assault and attempted robbery, per the NYPD.
The suspects allegedly ripped a Star of David necklace off a 41-year-old woman’s neck and knocked her phone out of her hand as she tried to record them tearing down posters of Israeli hostages on the Upper West Side, police said, WPIX-TV reported.
Omer and Gonzalez allegedly fled.
The victim suffered minor injuries, according to the outlet.
