You can still apply for stimulus checks as of today in certain states

The United States federal government will not issue additional stimulus checks in June 2025, as the time to get the leftover ones (some unclaimed from the 2021 fiscal year) passed in May, and the “DOGE Dividend” offered to Donald Trump has yet to be finalised.

There is currently no approved initiative at that level to restart such widespread financial support. However, not all is lost: several states and municipalities have established their own financial aid schemes. Inflationary rebates, energy credits, and guaranteed income schemes are among the measures implemented. These efforts aim to reduce financial stress in their respective jurisdictions.

Proposals for stimulus payments in New York—the first of the measures

New York’s 2025-2026 budget included inflation refund checks. These are one-time payments made by mail during October and November 2025. Access to this benefit does not require an application.

The amounts vary depending on income and marital status: $200 for singles with incomes under $75,000; $150 for incomes between $75,001 and $150,000; $400 for joint couples with incomes under $150,000; and $300 for couples with incomes between $150,001 and $300,000.

This effort is sponsored with excess sales tax income. It’s part of Governor Kathy Hochul’s budget proposal. It is expected that 8.2 million families will get these payments automatically.

California also provides financial support programs

California has not revived its Golden State Stimulus I and II programs, which expired in July 2022. There have also been no new statewide payments approved for 2025. Mass releases like the ones mentioned above are not envisaged.

The state is operating local pilot programs, such as Sacramento Family First, which distributes $725 per month to 200 low-income families until November 2025. The primary focus is on determining the influence on economic stability. This pilot initiative is designed to test the concept of universal basic income. It requires that you have recently filed your state taxes. Recipients must meet certain income requirements and lawfully reside in California.

Financial Relief Mechanisms in Colorado

Colorado offers refunds under the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights (TABOR) program. In 2025, it issued surplus tax refunds of $800 for single filers and $1,600 for married couples (joint filers).

These TABOR reimbursements were processed automatically or through a checkbox on the return. They required filing the 2024 return by April 15, 2025. The deadline was extended till October 15. Funds were distributed between April and May 2025, with delayed cheques arriving in June or July. Those who completed the deadlines were not required to submit any further papers.

A specific tax benefit program in Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania provides a property/rental rebate. It offers up to $1,000 a year to elderly, those with disabilities, and those with low incomes (under $45,000). The 2025 program began on January 16.

On May 8, eligibility was broadened to cover seven languages. The application period was extended to December 31, 2025. Payments started on July 1, 2025. Applicants can use Form PA-1000 or the myPATH platform. They must show income verification, including pay stubs.

Arizona citizens can apply for stimulus payments

Arizona offers a dependent reimbursement. It offers $250 for children under the age of 17 and $100 for elder dependents (including disabled people). The maximum number of dependents is three.

Singles may earn up to $750, and married couples up to $1,500. There is no specific income need to qualify. Dependents must be correctly declared. This tax advantage is based on the 2021 tax return. It enables for later claims from people who did not initially apply.

Local Initiatives in Ohio

The Ohio Mothers Trust pilot initiative is based in Columbus, Ohio. It offers $500 each month for 12 months to 32 single mothers. The income threshold is ≤80% of the regional median income (about $71,730 in 2024).

The campaign is funded by organisations including Motherful, RISE Together, and UpTogether. Its claimed goal is to promote economic stability and alleviate financial stress. The first payments were made in December 2024. Periodic beneficiary surveys are used to measure the impact.
