Tornado count increases with another confirmed tornado

We escaped a severe weather event Tuesday night and Wednesday of this week. However, that was not the case in the hard-hit St. Louis region. Another tornado was confirmed following severe weather that struck late Wednesday morning north of St. Louis.

An EF-1 landed near Clarksville, Missouri. The tornado reached maximum winds of 104 mph and stayed on the ground for approximately 3.6 miles before lifting on the other side of the Mississippi River.

The national total is also impressive, with an initial count of 1190 tornadoes. This makes it one of the most active spring severe weather seasons in the previous decade.

The pattern across the country is definitely shifting into summer mode, resulting in a shift in where tornadoes tend to occur. As the country settles into a hotter summer pattern, the jet stream shifts north as well.
