Severe thunderstorm warning for Berks now encompasses Chester and Montgomery

The National Weather Service issued a new severe thunderstorm warning for Berks, Chester, and Montgomery counties at 6:41 p.m., which is valid until 7:30 p.m. and includes wind gusts of up to 60 mph and cloud-to-ground lightning.

A previous warning was issued for Berks, Lehigh, and Schuylkill counties on Wednesday at 5:39 p.m. It was in force until 6:45 p.m. in Berks and Lehigh, and 6:15 p.m. in Schuylkill County.

Radar showed a storm with 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-sized hail.

“In addition to large hail and damaging winds, frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms,” the National Weather Service’s warning said. “Move inside immediately. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you’re close enough to get struck by lightning.
