July 2025 CalFresh (SNAP) Benefits: Payment Dates, Amounts, and Eligibility Details

If you receive food assistance through CalFresh (California’s version of the federal SNAP program), here’s what to expect for July 2025. These benefits are deposited onto your EBT card, called the Golden State Advantage card, and help low-income families access nutritious food.

When Will You Get Paid?

CalFresh deposits vary depending on the last digit of your case number, which can be found on county paperwork or in your BenefitsCal online account. Most recipients (around 92%) see their funds appear at midnight on their scheduled day. If you don’t see it right away, check again later that day before contacting support.

CalFresh Maximum Benefit Amounts for October 2024 – September 2025

Household SizeMaximum Monthly Benefit
1 person$292
2 people$536
3 people$768
4 people$975
5 people$1,158
6 people$1,390
7 people$1,536
8 people$1,756
Each additional person+$220

Note: These are maximum limits. The actual benefit amount depends on your income and deductible expenses.

How Are CalFresh Benefits Calculated?

CalFresh benefits are based on your gross income, minus deductions (like rent, utilities, childcare, or medical expenses if someone is over 60 or disabled). Your net income determines your expected contribution toward food—usually 30% of that amount.

Example:

  • A family of 4 has a net income of $1,000.
  • Expected food contribution = 30% of $1,000 = $300.
  • Max benefit for 4 people = $975.
  • Monthly benefit = $975 – $300 = $675.

Why Your Benefit Might Be Lower

Factors that can reduce your CalFresh benefit:

  • Increased household income
  • Lower deductible expenses
  • Changes in household size
  • Failure to meet work or reporting requirements

Households with seniors or people with disabilities may qualify for additional deductions and higher income limits.

Using Your EBT Card: What You Can and Can’t Buy

You CAN buy:

  • Fresh, frozen, or canned fruits and vegetables (no added sugar/salt)
  • Meat, poultry, and fish
  • Dairy products (milk, cheese, yogurt)
  • Bread, cereal, rice, tortillas, pasta
  • Seeds and plants to grow food
  • Baby food, formula, infant cereal
  • Healthy snacks (e.g., plain popcorn, unsweetened nuts)

You CANNOT buy:

  • Hot prepared meals (unless elderly, homeless, or disabled under special programs)
  • Alcohol or tobacco
  • Vitamins or supplements
  • Non-food items (toilet paper, pet food, soap)
  • Candy and sweets
  • Restaurant meals (except in approved programs)

Important Reminders

  • Stay eligible by submitting your SAR-7 on time and recertifying when requested.
  • Report income or household changes to avoid interruptions.
  • Keep your EBT card safe and check your balance regularly.

CalFresh is here to support your family’s food security. Use it wisely and stay on top of requirements to avoid any disruption in benefits.
